Roy Davis has spent 15 years honing his craft across genres and continents, distilling those experiences into something entirely new. After releasing five albums and touring Europe, Davis has assembled his dream team of collaborators for his most ambitious project yet.
Recorded in an 1815 barn-turned-studio in Maine, Sunset Guppy’s debut album “The Great Diversion” (releasing March 18th, 2025) marries Davis’s folk and Americana roots with soul and R&B influences. The recording captures an organic warmth through its blend of pedal steel, mandolin, vintage keyboards, and soulful backing vocals, while Davis’s lyrics are sharp, playful and profound. “The Great Diversion” explores human nature and finding ground in uncertain times, though the project maintains a sense of humor about itself.
Sunset Guppy represents the culmination of Davis’s musical journey – a collective of assembled virtuosic eccentrics bringing fresh energy to his songwriting. Together they’ve created an album that finds light in the darkness and humor in hardship, an experimental modern spin on American roots music.
“Spiritually and emotionally [creating music with Roy] has been so fulfilling, and he has become like a brother to me, both musically and otherwise. Financially though, it has been devastating, and I may never recover.”

“I felt like I was in a divorced middle-aged man’s studio apartment while he cracked jokes and played songs with his friends. It was very unsettling.”

“While not a skilled lover, some of his songs are pretty good. Some of them I don’t like.”
